SORT-E-FILENAME File write failed

I've got a month end QTP job (i.e. large data) sort problem.  I get the
error "*E* SORT-E-FILENAME File write failed" then "There was a sort error".
The sort area & scratch areas seem to have space to spare.  The only thing I
can think of is one of the data areas may be filling up (SORT-E-.. is not in
qshow so I'm assuming it's a system file).

(It's version 7.33.D3 on AIX RS6000)
