Locking in 7.10G1 with Oracle Rdb 7.0

Henk,

There has been a lot of discussion about this on the Rdb list server of
late. In short, I think you'll find that if you set the logical
RDM$BIND_SNAPS_QUIET_POINT to "0" your problem will go away. Apparently the
way it works now is the way it should always have worked, but they fixed a
bug between Rdb 6.1 and 7.0!

I always try to avoid upgrading PowerHouse and Rdb at the same time!

Subject: Locking in 7.10G1 with Oracle Rdb 7.0

Hallo,

We just upgraded our systems:

VMS Alpha OpenVMS to VAX V6.2-1H3
PowerHouse 7.10.F2    to    7.10G1
Oracle Rdb V6.1-1     to    V7.0-1

Since then, we have a problem with our online database back-up.
(snapshots and AIJ are enabled) :
rmu/backup/online/log  databasename backupname

exp:
Just 1 user starts Quiz and access a table;
Then start the backup;
Now the backup is waiting for the database quit point.

Until the user does not leave Quiz, rmu is waiting.
When the user is leaving (exit) , the backup goes.

The same happens in a quick screen just in Find/Select
mode or after the Update Stay.

Before we never had this problem.

We don't have the problem when we access the
database with SQL. An open read-only transaction doesn't
hold the backup, a open read-write transaction does hold until
the transaction is commited.

At this time, we don't know if it is a PH problem, a Rdb problem
or a combination.
We made calls to the Oracle and Cognos helpdesk, but may be
someone else can help us.

Greetings,
Henk
