Find a Mentor. I agree with the comments re: bad code by self taught folk.
I've seen
code in my travels that were born of complete ignorance.  Not that I've
written
the perfect PowerHouse system either.

I think a seasoned Mentor combined with PowerHouse courses would be your best
bet.
