PH/FLexlm on OpenVMS license PROBLEMS!

Hi Lyn!   I can't comment on the details but I can honestly say that we've
had NIGHTMARES with our Alpha's, OpenVMS and the PowerHouse license Daemon.

Our ONLY solution is to get a key for the full development demo license and
keep renewing it.  I believe it's being resolved (for over a year and a half
now, so all hopes our poor) between Compaq/DEC and Cognos.

Of course if this isn't your problem then please disregard the Red Herring.
It's easy enough to test however.  Just kill the daemon and install a demo
pak.

		We are running on clustered Alphas with OpenVMS.  We've been
running
		fine - no problems since over a year ago when we maxed out
our runtime
		licenses and had to get more. Then suddenly, as of Monday
morning - we are
		having problems with our PH licenses.   There was the
following error in
		our COGNOSDA.LOG file, then the trouble began....

		FLEXlm: unknown error code 8444 from VMS in flm_vms_net_read

		It's trying to give our users Development licenses randomly
among the
		Runtime licenses. (We have 195 Runtime/ 5 Development). When
it tries
		to give a  Development license and all 5 are in use, then
the process
		fails.  This is causing our users much grief - they are
having problems
		accessing their software systems and when they do get in,
any subprocesses
		can randomly fail.  

		Our "PH-guru" is out on vacation, so I am turning to ya'll
for help.  We
		have called Cognos Support - but they don't seem to have an
answer either.

		Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated....
