Rdb 7.0 and PH 6.10/6.20

When we upgraded to Powerhouse 7.10F1 (from 6.00C mind you), we experienced
alot of locking issues. The only way we were able to resolve it was by
using the PRE_610_COMMIT qualifier when we ran QDesign to compile our
programs.

I am now sporadically experiencing a problem where users will get into a
screen at the start of the day and they will lock up the database. They
haven't done a query or anything, they've just logged into the application.
Problem is it happens about once a month so it's been difficult to track.
About the only similarity I've been able to pin it to so far is that it's
usually a user in our Cleveland office that has the system lock. Is it
possible that something similar to the
RDM$BIND_SNAP_QUIET_POINT logical is our problem? I looked for this logical
and we don't have it, but didn't know if it would be called something else
for Open VMS.

Would like to resolve this sporadic locking issue just for my sanity. Would
also like to resolve the previous locking issues we experienced when doing
the upgrade because I believe we're going to be upgrading to the most
current version of Powerhouse in the near future and I don't expect this
PRE_610_COMMIT qualifier for QDesign will be around forever.

We're currently on Open VMS 6.1, but we're upgrading to 7.1 this weekend.
Current version of RDB is 6.1-13.

TIA for any help.

Henk,

There has been a lot of discussion about this on the Rdb list server of
late. In short, I think you'll find that if you set the logical
RDM$BIND_SNAP_QUIET_POINT to "0" your problem will go away. Apparently the
way it works now is the way it should always have worked, but they fixed a
bug between Rdb 6.1 and 7.0!

I always try to avoid upgrading PowerHouse and Rdb at the same time!

Is anyone running PowerHouse 6.10E or 6.20E against Rdb 7.0 ?

If so, did you experience any locking problems, and how did you resolve
them?

(We've got a client who is upgrading to PH 7.10Gx a wee bit at a time - on
this step they upgraded Rdb only and are experiencing lots of locking
problems. They are looking at user quotas but are not sure where to
start...)

Thanks
John
