Ivy,
I'm with Arthur. We've never got the licencing on the Alpha to work, having been through 710E to 710E6 ( slowly & painfully ), then 710F and now 710G. We also have a demo licence which we have to keep renewing.
regards,
bruce

> All I can say is good luck. I do not know of one site where the license deamon works properly on ALPHAs. The deamon will work for a while and then suddenly stop accepting requests. At this point you can kill the deamon process and restart it. Then it will work again... until it stops. The problem with this is, you do not know when it is going to stop, which is rather dangerous, since it can stop in the middle of a batch run, with some jobs able to run (before it stops) and others not. Note: this problem is peculiar to ALPHAs only and does not seem to occur on any other platform, even on VAX. The problem has been brought to Cognos's attention for years, but is still to be resolved. To be fair to Cognos, their license deamon relies on third party software and it is not certain where the problem lies.

> The only foolproof solution we found is to get Cognos to supply us a demo key, which does not need the deamon to be running. Unfortunately, since Cognos will not provide a long term demo key, we need to go through a relicensing exercise on a regular bases, in our case every 9 months.
