Cognos coversion from mainframe to PC

I know I'm new on the list, but I have to say I really like hearing from
those, that can qualify as the "salt of the earth."
In my experience, I too, have enormous confidence in the reliability of hp
3000's. they were ahead of the pack in the late 1970's and stayed strong
throughout the pc revolution, where mind-loss seems to be the common
characteristic, among the once-sensible.
DEC and HP battled, VAX to MPE, VMS to MPE/ix, and so on. Once you learn
them both from the inside, you realize they are not all that different,
except in terminology. DEC edges HP in network management, though. NS/3000
is just an updated name for DS/3000. The DSNxxxx utility is what executes.
The LAN cards later to hit hp helped put them on the network. Best, under
Novell netware, in my exposure. DEC goes beyond hp in this arena with
clusters.
Just for contrast, In 1986, I once told S/38 IBMer's about on-line updates.
I spoke about 4GL's and the screen handling. My "story" was dubbed "Star
Wars" and the MAPICs users group never believed I could be telling anything
but a fable. How could an HP do such a thing? How could software behave
like that?
