Well, once this thread has moved off of source control on the VAX to the
HP3000, I can heartily recommend the premier package: OCS Librarian. We
used it where I formerly worked. Very rich in features, but at the basic
level it's fairly easy to use -- if the administrator can read a manual.

I have no financial interest in this company. I've used their product and
like it.

The main source control system on the HP would seem to be HP Librarian (was
that a
groan?). It allows the users to reserve programs and seems flexible enough
to allow
you to set up your own groups (as in names), accounts and command
procedures.
For example we reserve programs into a development account (DEV). Once the
programmer is finished working on the program he promotes it to a test
account
(FJD). Once it's tested it's moved to a pilot account (CPILOT) and once
it's piloted
to the production account (COMS). We are using Allbase and it also moves
the MODULES
(if you don't know what an Allbase Module is-you're lucky) at the same time
it moves
the Source and Objects. Separate commands are needed for Qdesign, QTP and
QUIZ
programs.
It's not a pretty system but it is a workable one and I find we are better
off using
it than before when it was fairly haphazard.
