I wrote several reports like this before.
If you require a specific number of record complexes then you can create
a control file and link it in parallel to your reporting complex. The
linkage will always produce the number of record complexes your require.
The control file would only require two fields, a counter and a constant
- I've used KSAM files for this. The constant would be a key. The
counter would increment from 1 to the value of the constant. The counter
field provides a processing location without having to use any summary
functions in Quiz.
In your case you would "AND LINK 15 TO CONSTANT-IDX OF CONTROL-FILE" but
you could further parameterize it so you are not hard coding the number
of links.
This technique is also useful for other applications, e.g. creating
shipping labels with "1 OF nn" information. Shipping information usually
summarizes into a known number of packages. Linking that number in
parallel to the control file allows easy reporting of the shipping
labels with "1 of 4", "2 of 4" information. E.g. "LINK NUM-PACKAGES TO
CONSTANT-IDX OF CONTROL-FILE"
