Maybe Cognos could release the source to the community (free) and allow
us to make it work on Linux, no charge.  Cognos could still make many
buy getting a royalty from any product sold that was built with
PowerHouse Linux version.  This is the ever more popular product
development model that is being embraced by the likes of Netscape, ET
AL.  Cognos would also get the benefit of non-paid developers doing the
port at minimal cost to them.
