Most definitely. This goes back to day one when HP came out with the while loop,
MPE WHILE works the same way.

It actually IS documented somewhere, can't remember where. Essentially, you need
to either use auto as you did, or you can also do the < redirection for input. I
guess mpe "eats" the input in stdlust the first time through. Also, you'll
notice that your jcl looks different the second time thru the loop in the
stdlist.
