Mark,
I am somewhat rusty on this, but the thing I noticed that no one
mentioned on the Esc-K for scrolling back through command
at the unix # prompt (KSH?) is that you need to tell the system
which editor you will use with this. I believe the 'standard'
syntax for this is :
set -o vi
where -o is dash little oh, not zero.
Then you can use vi editor commands to edit the command
after you scroll back to it.
Recommend looking at a text for the various shells in UNIX.
The "C" shell Csh offers a !! command to repeat the last command
with options to replace various parts of the last command, but it
is somewhat awkward. Also, the C shell has a history command
that you can set up in your environment to see a list of the
last n number of commands issued, then repeat one of these
commands.
But nothing I've seen is quite as nice as what I'd seen before
on VMS where you could scroll back to a command and
edit it with the backspace and arrow keys.
Check out the O'Reilley Publications list of books. UNIX is
wonderful in its scripting ability and the tools to take the text output
from a command and feed the output into another script or command
and cook up your own tools and commands.

Michael,
That was my first thought to try <ESC> k.
It does want to do something I feel because
if I press <ESC> k the k does not appear
after pressing the escape key however press
it again you have a k. The results however
do not produce a recall of the previous PH statements.
Any idea Micheal why it works for you and not me?
Anyone?
