Hope no one is further behind than I.
Have spent two weeks just re-doing all the date sizes in the dictionary
and am still not quite done yet. The dictionary is only 28,000+ lines
long. Had some interruptions for other projects,, We are under UNIX
so are using PDL. UNIX also has strong text searching, editing, and
scripting capabilities - so that helps with source modifications.
Found a number of cases where dates are embedded in other data
structures, and found that the people that created some of our
'sundries' [global reference] files used a technique
of declaring a filler of 120 characters in the record, then placing a
number of differenet 'items' in the same place - at the same offset -
in the record. Pretty messy. We also have extensive code where
the developers tried to solve the y2k problem on their own a long
time ago by creating sturctured dates with a PHDATE and a
CENTury value tied toghther into a single element. Have decided
to remove all instances of this and work off the 8 digit dates when
century values are needed. Will have to remove the code
references as well.
