This topic seems to have gone off in two different directions...
First, the original question: are the Cognos conferences worth attending, especially for PowerHouse folks?
We are sending 4 BI specialists from New Zealand (one with a background in PowerHouse) to the Atlanta conference. All will be presenting BI papers. We find the conferences very worth while for several reasons:
(1) the papers are usually of a high standard; we always learn something valuable;
(2) the chance to talk to our peers from different organisations and countries to compare experiences; we always learn something valuable;
(3) the chance to meet the Cognos folks who are responsible for the products we are working with; we always learn something valuable, (and so do they)
Like everything else in life, what you get out of it depends on what you put into it. If you set out with specific aims, like "I want to find someone who is using Axiant for real", then you have a good chance of getting a good return. If you just swan along for the drinks and nibbles, then all you'll get is a hangover...
The PowerHouse content is getting thinner, but that reflects the maturity of the base. However, you do get the chance to front up to the big chiefs and tell them that you love PowerHouse and they should put more effort into it (or whatever). They do listen ! If nobody tells them, then how do they know anybody still cares? Go to the conference.
That's enough for now... the "Future of PowerHouse" string is another story.
