Mikael Olesen,
I think my first message got lost, as we are having problems with our mail
server.
We also have an HP3000 with Image and PH7.29C3. What we use is Omnidex from
DISC (Dynamic Information Systems). Omnidex allows us to make any field in
an image database a key. It works well with Powerhouse. You define and
populate the keys with an Omnidex program - quite easy to use - with menus &
screens. You can define the omnidex keys in the Powerhouse dictionary. Then
access or search on the keys in Quiz and Qdesign. I don't think it works
with QTP. With Quiz you can link to the file via the omnidex key with the
Link of the Access statment and also use an omnidex key in the Choose stmt.
(CHOOSE VIAINDEX VENDOR-NAME VENDOR-NAME "A@" - will select all the records
with vendor-name that start with A and they are displayed back sorted without
doing a Quiz sort.) You can use generic and range retreivals on the omnidex
keys. These keys work very well in Qdesign too, although you must use some
special code in a procedure, you can't just use the lookup of the Field or
Access statement. When you do a search in Quick the found records come back
sorted which is a great plus in Quick. I know it is a lot faster than doing
serial reads. Powerhouse 7.29 comes with a manual "OMNIDEX Support in
Powerhouse for MPE/iX (version 7.29)". It tells how to set up omnidex keys
in the PDL dictionary and how to use them in Access and Choose stmts in Quiz.
The booklet does not explain the code needed for Qdesign. When we purchased
Omnidex, we compared Omnidex to Supertool and chose Omnidex. It works very
well for us in the HP3000, MPEix, Image, Powerhouse environment. Omnidex
uses the Image TPI (3rd Party Indexing) and also has an agreement with
COGNOS.
Sorry if this is a plug for Omnidex - just sharing what works for us.
