With the onset of millennial madness a number of our VAX-based clients are at last considering a move from PH 6.10 to 7.10. They have heard that it requires an increase in system resources to run 7.10 and are afraid of the performance impact.
The Installation instructions lay out the minimum resources, and the steps to adjust for each particular application, so we are unable to give them a precise answer until after they have converted, because the resources required are dependent on the application design.
We'd obviously like to give them some guidance beforehand of what to expect. Based on your experiences, does anyone have a feel for (a) what the increase in system resource requirements (Page file quota, Working set extent...) is likely to be and (b) whether there will be a degradation in performance, assuming that a straight conversion is done and none of the new 7.10 features are implemented.
The answer expected is of the form "We needed to increase Page file quotas by 10%; response time was 50% slower"
BTW, we are impressed with Power2000 - well worth a close look if you haven't already sorted yourselves out.
Thanks
John
