I've been at HP World and so haven't had a chance to respond. Certainly,
Powerhouse treats a 0 value and a null value (actually in IMAGE it's not
a null value, it's binary zeroes, not quite the same thing) as
different. For PowerHouse, a date value of 0 is treated as if the date
doesn't exist and you'll see blanks (sort of an assumed blank when
zero). I'd have to do some testing, but I expect that the null value is
translated into a 0 (as opposed to 00000000) and that 0 is taken as the
year. If your interested in testing this, write an OUTPUT procedure for
the date items and include
INFO = "Fieldtext=" + fieldtext
in the procedure. This will show you the value that is about to be
formatted by the date format. Actually, I'm surprised you don't get a
data conversion error on that value. It may be that output formatting is
very forgiving about data conversion errors. After all, what's the user
going to do about them.
