Great examples! I'm late to the party as it turns out my email yesterday exceeded the size limit. My bad :(
So, short & sweet....depending on the file processing (complexities) and/or variable passing (flags) you need to do you could also call a dcl command procedure from your main screen (or ghost screen). For passing something like flags or return values I simply retrieve, assign, or delete symbols or logicals in the command procedure and/or the QKS calling screen.
GETSYSTEMVAL, SETSYSTEMVAL, DELETESYSTEMVAL  Note: if using logicals I use lnm$job table instead of lnm$process table.
