Thanks Terry for getting the ball rolling.
I’m going to reply to these based on my opinions and understanding of PowerHouse. None of what I say should be taken as UNICOM plans, opinion or policy. Please understand that regardless of my replies, all ideas and suggestions are good ones. They help us to understand what people are using the product for and where they hit limitations.
1) Increase the current maximum number of files Quick allows from thirty-one(31).
I’ve seen many requests for this over the years. I’m not disagreeing with the idea. The issue has always been that QUICK is based on a large number of interlinked tables and changing one affects many of the others. Not only would it be a lot of work, but any changes could be destaibilizing. That said, I’m curious about the need for more than 31 files. Is this for more than 31 unique files? Or is it because you require many ALIASed files? Would using SQL help at all?
2) Allow QUIZ to utilize a GLOBAL TEMP like QTP so that, for example, a date or input can be passed to
multiple QUIZ sub-programs under one source code, therefore reducing the need for multiple BUILDS
when running a twenty (20) or so part report. (In QTP multiple programs are separated by the REQUEST keyword).
This would require a RUN/REQUEST structure in QUIIZ. I honestly don’t know how difficult it would be to wrap that around the existing QUIZ code. Either way, it’s certainly a good idea.
3) Allow QUIZ to send a text report directly to a Windows program such as NOTEPAD.
Is there a printer driver to allow print to Notepad, or any other program? If you use
SET REPORT DEVICE PRINTER DIALOG
QUIZ pops up the standard Windows printer dialog and you can direct the report to any entry. That way you can print to PDF as well.
4) Allow <INITIAL HEADING> to generate the default columns headings rather than the Programmer
having to enter them.
The PAGE HEADING statement has an option to KEEP COLUMN HEADINGS. INITIAL HEADING is designed to handle printing on the first page only. Are you printing data that’s different than the rest of the report?
5) Increase the number of PowerHouse KEYWORDS.Eg LASTDAY exists , include FIRSTDAY.
I think FIRSTDAY never rose to the top because one could extract the month and year in a variety of ways and add 01. Are there any others?
AXIANT
6) Revamp AXIANT as it is too fragmented. Eg. the source code should be editable from one location(window) and not
having to switch between windows in order to edit various aspects of the code.
I agree completely. This would obviously be a major effort.
7) ALL PowerHouse features should be supported in Axiant.
I agree. Which ones aren’t?

As you can imagine, the UNICOM PowerHouse team is still in transition. That said, they are looking to the future and although they and I have some ideas, we’d like to hear yours big or small. You can post them here for everyone to see. That way everyone gets to see them and expand on them.
