PH Re-compilation necessity

Well, PH Listers, apart from the idea that it "makes sense" to recompile the whole portfolio of programs that access an OpenVMS Oracle Rdb table that has had a column or columns added to it, can anyone please tell me what unexpected results one could expect if one doesn't perform said recompiles ex. to the half dozen of the programs that need the new columns. I have an app with about 130 programs that access Table "A" and we're adding a column or two to it, appending to the existing structure. Said fields are not indexed in any way.
