Oracle Rdb and recompile requirements

Similar to other responses…when we made a change to any RDB table we recompiled any program that referenced that table. We have user accounts enq set to 2000 but we’re on GS160 and for Alpha I believe it doesn’t have to be that high.
Thanx

If the table and the key are/were defined in the a dictionary, yes. If not Rdb/VMS if we changed a a key we recompiled

It may matter how you declared the database in the dictionary. Are you using the native interface or the SQL interface.
If you used RDB, then it's the SQL interface and I wouldn't expect it to matter. That's because PowerHouse generates SQL based on the structure at the time, but it's the database that decides which indices to use. In other words, there's no PowerHouse use of relational database indexes at execution time.
On the other hand, if you used RDB/VMS, I really don't know. It's quite possible that the routines used at execution time are based on the structure known at compile time.
That's my recollection. Remember I've been away from this stuff for over a month.

Good Afternoon, PH Listers:
We've made a change to a table, removing a repeating key and the question was raised "Do we have to recompile all the programs that access that table?". My opinion and several others was "No...". We've had an enqueue and quota anomaly and I'm questioning whether our previous recompile asssumption was in fact correct?
Can anyone please share?
env: QDESIGN710G VT320
Rdb: Rdb/Dispatch V7.0-65 (OpenVMS AXP)
and some kind of big HP Alpha (AKA DEC/VAX) server....openvms ver: OpenVMS V7.1-2
Yes, i realize some of this stuff is neanderthal...
Thanks a bunch!John M Penney
