Oracle Rdb and recompile requirements

Thanks, Bob: Over a month, eh? Well, don't be s stranger I think I said before!
It's OpenVMS Rdb - old version 7.1 to be sure, PH 7.10... so not the really old VMS RDBMS certainly.
Well, my thoughts are that it don't matter as they say in the vernacular, seeing as all Rdb access is done under the sheets.
But I have also gotten a couple of 'hey, old school, re-compile' posts. I'll let you all know how it turns out and again, Thanks! to all who responded.

It may matter how you declared the database in the dictionary. Are you using the native interface or the SQL interface.
If you used RDB, then it's the SQL interface and I wouldn't expect it to matter. That's because PowerHouse generates SQL based on the structure at the time, but it's the database that decides which indices to use. In other words, there's no PowerHouse use of relational database indexes at execution time.
On the other hand, if you used RDB/VMS, I really don't know. It's quite possible that the routines used at execution time are based on the structure known at compile time.
That's my recollection. Remember I've been away from this stuff for over a month.
Cheers
Bob

We've had an enqueue and quota anomaly and I'm questioning whether our previous recompile asssumption was in fact correct?
