Replacing PH apps - why?

It's because your next job is highly dependent on your current job. Nobody wants a black mark on their resume, at least not if they work full-time direct. A prospective employer sees that you've been working in an obsolete environment for the past several years, and they skip right on past you.
I can tell you that our organization has had trouble in the past finding programmers, even when they've relaxed their requirements. And even though you may find Powerhouse easy to learn, it takes a good six months to a year for a newbie to become really productive in our not-quite-vanilla environment.

Subject: Replacing PH apps - why?
Darren, since when does a programmer need to be a one trick pony? I'm pretty sure all of us can code in more than one environment. Apps coded in PH will be around pretty much as long as it makes financial sense for the company.
BTW, since I work part-time remotely these days - consider me "off source" already.

> Karen, by my calculation you'll be replaced when they off source maintenance of UT. It will still be around for a while because the replacement cost is so high. Maintenance is cheaper and moving that off shore is cheaper still. Accountants like cheap. Sure PH is easy to learn, but seriously, one would have to be an idiot to invest valuable career time into a dead end tool. As a side note, they'd also be a sucker to do it there.
