Sometimes qtp is slow when running it online. If you are running it in a session, try it in a job.

What Vicki recommends would do the same thing and has the advantage of removing deleted records.. I'm not on a 3K..

  The KSAM manual is here.

Have you tried rebuilding the keys?

Problem is the KSAM files do not contain any modification history so I will
have to re-read the entire file over and over until the conversion is done.
So any help speeding this up would make a hell of a difference

It may also depend on the key/index structure and how the file is
accesses. For example, if you do a keyed read on a repeating key with lots
of duplicates, I seem to recall something about having to read down the
chain from the beginning. It was a long time ago, but I do remember issues
like this. Are you reading the file sequentially or by index?

Ken, I'm not sure which "version" of KSAM files you're using, but for
older versions, we had to periodically re-load the files--the details of
why escapes me, but I believe there were a number of factors that caused
KSAM to grind to a halt.

You should reference you HP3000 manual for instructions, but if memorry
serves, we FCOPY'd the data out to a flat file, deleted the KSAM files
(after a backup or two!) and re-created them, and then copied the data
back in. This re-organizes your keys and physically deletes any logically
    deleted records.

Again -- going on memory here from almost 20 years ago, but I suspect that
could be your issue. They were notorious for performance degradation
unless regularly re-built. Some newer version of KSAM were better, but
could still slow down over time.

    Hope this is helpful!

    Hello all,

I am in the process of extracting data from an HP3000 and ran into
    something
that I have never seen before.

When I extract data from KSAM files, the process grinds to a halt
practically, the IMAGE files are fine.

I used to use KSAM all the time and never saw any performance problems
    before like this.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.
