Hello Argyriou,

Thanks for your information.

We have some set of character sets defined on the basis of ISO_LATIN.
Like for "western European" languages we used ISO_LATIN_1 and the
character set is defined as below in the Dictionary source code.

@if ISO_LATIN_1
;
+--------------------------------------------------------------------------+

; | The next sentences are to upshift or downshift accented vowels in the
|
; | right way. The explanation of the sentence is in the manual:
|
; |     PowerHouse for UNIX
|
; | PDL and Utilities Reference
|
; |              (Version 7.23)
|
; |              Pages: 281 to 282
|
; | It is mandatory to recompile all source code for that.

Greek characters set uses ISO_LATIN_7 (ISO 8859-7). So I need the
character set for Greek alphabates so that I can compile the dictionary
using ISO_LATIN_7.  Please help.

Come on, David. There are people on the planet that speak Greek (me for
example) but I don’t think anybody speaks Aramaic or Phoenician any more.

Now, to try to answer Pandurang’s question, I guess whatever change
necessary will have to be done in the SYSTEM OPTIONS statement of the pdl.
I found an old piece of code which was in production until 2001 in a Unix
environment (DGUX). Here goes:

System Options                                        &
   ASCII8                                             &
   Application Security ID method UIC &
   ALLOW CENTURY                                      &
   INPUT CENTURY 19 FROM YEAR 80                      &
   Date Format DDMMMYY Date Separator "/" &
   Sysmonths "ΙΑΝΦΕΒΜΑΡΑΠΡΜΑΙΙUΝΙUΛΑΥΓΣΕΠΟΚΤΝΟΕΔΕΚ"   &
   Title "ΑΒΓ"

The Sysmonths string contains Greek characters, so does the Title string. I
haven’t used Powerhouse after 2002 so I don’t remember much. What I
remember, though, was that there was nothing really special to be done at
the Powerhouse level in order to compile the dictionary. I remember that I
have seen in some Powerhouse implementations another option used, involving
a string of Ascii characters, but I don’t remember what it was.

Anyway, Pandurang, please send me any questions and I will try to help.

Subject: Compile Dictionaries for Different Character Set

Hello Team,

The dictionaries are compiled for different character set on the basis of
ISO_LATIN.
For different ISO LATIN there are changes done in dictionaries for upshift
,downshift localization.

What changes will be required for using Greek character set , The
ISO_LATIN_7 is being used for Greek character set.
What changes should be done in the dictionary for compiling the dictionary
with iso_latin_7.

Thanks & Regards
