One issue with moving to Unix is the minimal support of Batch jobs. We
encountered this problem some years ago with some of our clients and so
we developed a system called "Job Assistance" written in PowerHouse and
C that handles job scheduling. The original version was developed on the
Vax in 1988. It was re-developed in 1989 for the HP/3000 and then ported
to HP/UX in 1994. It has been progressively enhanced since then. It is
currently being used to handle job processing for two large government
departments and at a large private sector company.

Product information is on our web site at:
http://www.sewardconsulting.com/ja/

The following are some of the main features of Job Assistance:

   1. Equivalent mechanisms supported for HP/3000 MPE job-related commands.
   2. Comfortable, user-friendly, PowerHouse interface.
   3. Table-driven definition of jobs (instead of JCL/shell coding).
   4. Automatic & flexible parameter prompting/passing.
   5. Grouped output from multiple reports to a single output device.
   6. Dynamic redirection of output to any system output device (e.g.
      printers, email, ftp).
   7. Ad-hoc User submission of jobs/reports.
   8. Automatic job scheduling based on date/time.
   9. Job/report log history.
  10. Saving of jobs/output to disk for later viewing/printing.
  11. Automated job cleanup on a schedule.
  12. Job and output fences/priorities.
  13. Custom job queues.
