Hi Anne:    The easy solution would be to write to another file in either of the COBOL programs.    But since that is not an option Marc is suggesting a QUICK process in between the two  COBOL processes.  
 
    I  would check with the HP3000 listserver for some kind of audit utility.
 
    If you have a 3GL compiler you might be able to trap prgm1's  write action or prgm2's read action. In either trap
    you  will write the data to a sequential file. Remember to reorganize this file every so often
