Disable the @ function in a search field

Hi,

Powerhouse 8.40
OpenVMS 7.3

I have a login page on PHweb.  The Username consist of a email address 
and the password is alpha numeric *10.

Since the username is an email, ex: the email adress is XXX at hotmail.com.
I can just type XXX@ and Powerhouse will let me go thru.

Same goes for the password since I can just put @.  I've disable the @ 
in Javascript in the page for the password but any suggestion would be 
appreciated since I would prefer to disable it via PH and the Web Pages.
