read exclusive locking

I need to implement a serializable locking strategy at record level in
8.41D1 Quick against an Oracle 9i back end.
That is, the records read by the screen are locked exclusively and other
users will have to wait until the lock is released to read them.
The Quick manual says Powerhouse can do this but I haven't been able to make
it work.
Does anyone have a simple example of this?
Many thanks,
Stephen.
