I have been on vacation recently and have just now had a chance to read
the discussion this week about CSV and P/House subfiles.
I am pleased to announce that we have developed a utility called
PSConvert that reads portable subfiles and converts them to CSV files.
It currently also generates Tab and Semi-colon separated files. The
Utility only supports portable subfiles with an associated dictionary.
Before making this announcement we had planned on completing beta
testing. However, in light of the recent discussion about CSV/Subfiles,
it now seems appropriate to give everyone on this news group a heads up
on the existence of this utility.
We have been developers of PowerHouse systems since the early 1980's. As
we have benefited from PowerHouse over the years we have decided to make
PSConvert available as open source to the PowerHouse community.
PSConvert was developed in Python, a language supported on numerous
platforms including Windows, Unix, and Vax. We have tested PSConvert on
Windows and HP/UX and have EXE builds for both these platforms. We plan
that once we have completed our testing, both the EXE builds and the
source code will be made available under an open source license.
We are now also considering building another utility that will read a
CSV file and produce a portable subfile. We hope to leverage the code
from PSConvert as well as from the data parsing technology we have
developed for our commercial data mart building product called ProtoMart:
http://www.protomart.com/
We are grateful to Bob Deskin for recently testing PSConvert and for
providing valuable feedback which we are currently incorporating into
the latest version of the utility.
I plan to post an announcement here when PSConvert will be available for
download.
Thanks,
