The 3GL languages you're trying to dump on have had advances while
Powerhouse has been dragging its feet in comparison.

I've started to believe that with the use of object oriented systems
and good libraries and framewoks, an experienced coder in these
non-4GL systems can be just as productive as an experienced
Powerhouse coder. These new systems do have a higher learning curve
and are surely more complicated, but you can do more also.

To do anything complicated in Powerhouse (Quick), one drops down to
use the 3GL coding constructs. How is that any different from using
VB for instance?

Years ago Next Computer had a video available where they gave a
NextStep programmer and a Sun Solaris programmer (their competition)
a spec for an application. The two experienced programmers sat near
each other and coded up the application. Part way through the
competition, they added a spec change/addition as would be likely.
The Sun guy never quite got the application done, while the NextStep
guy had time to play a game. I'd like to see a similar competition
between a Powerhouse programmer, a C# .Net programmer and a Ruby on
Rails programmer.

The real point of Joe's message was that individuals can't even enter
the Powerhouse market for ANY price. I've also heard a rumor that an
individual cannot take Cognos training. HOW BLOODY RIDICULOUS IS THAT!
