New feature suggestion : allow qdesign/quick to create subfiles

This has been on our list for a while, probably since reading and
writing subfiles went into QUICK. It will remain on the list, in other
words, it's not too difficult or too risky, however, it usually comes
out as a lower priority since you can create the subfile with QUIZ or
QTP.

I should say create subfiles rather than write, they, of course,
can already be written to.

I think it would be very helpful to allow qdesign/quick to write
subfiles, as these currently have to be written via a call to quiz or
qtp before a screen can access them.

I will add this to the list but it won't happen for the
next release. I suspect that the internals will not be as simple as they
might seem. There are also timing issues and the big one - how to handle
data buffers back and forth. The reason I say that is that QTP is not
the same as QUICK in terms of event timing.
While this has been requested before, there are other
things higher on the list with less risk and less effort involved.

The ability to call a compiled object in as
similar manner to the call to a stored procedure,
e.g. sql in AXNWIND call dbo.ORDIDLINEHIGH (
ORDERID OF orders IN, t_nextno out)

That's what Guy Werry suggested. While that
works, it does not get data to and from the COBOL program within a QTP
request.

You can, but there is no connection
between the COBOL program and QTP. In other words, you can't pass data
back and forth.

Why can't you do a Shell command like
"! cobol.sh" ?

You can't call a COBOL subroutine
directly from QTP. There is no equivalent of QUICK's DO EXTERNAL. There
may be other techniques to run a program as a subprocess but there would
be no connection between the COBOL program and QTP.
