"So what idiot in your company decided to move from an advanced and low
TCO
OS to a more primative and costly one? I have worked on both platforms
and even on a conversion from OVMS to HPUX and remember the pain of using
HPUX vs OVMS. OVMS is available on the Itanium now as well.

OK, Bluey, here's the sad story. And you know that those of us who build
screens, reports, interfaces etc. usually do not get a choice of what op
sys to use.
The company was running on DEC equipment. In '96, they bought a package
and installed it on the DECs. In '97, according to what I was told, the
software vendor told them VMS was not going to be around much longer and
they were no longer going to support it. The vendor then persuaded the
company to switch to HP9000/HPUX.
Ironically, some time later the company realized they were not getting
much support for the support fees they were paying to the vendor.
So, they dropped the vendor support anyway. They have been doing their
own custom PH work in-house for sometime. But the company was bought.
Now, the parent company says this company has to switch to Oracle
applications next year. And so, sadly, another user is dropping
PowerHouse.
