What version are you using? I just tried your align statement in the 8.41E test version on Windows and it was fine. I don't recall any recent changes to ALIGN.

Might be due to the definition of the variable that contains the column number in the powerhouse source code!
Sounds like a single byte with sign bit(but why, negative values aren't allowed here). This would mean something like 2^7 -1 (though zero isn't valid as well!) to be the max i.e. 127.
Could also be an array with a lowerbound=0 (and thus an upperbound=127).
This are just wild guesses. Don't hang me up on them!
The limitation is weird whatever the cause ...............................................................
