We're not talking about running PowerHouse on LINUX. We're talking about
running PowerHouse on a supported platform and accessing Oracle on
LINUX.

is it not 8.41 that's needed for linux ? and presumably you have to swap
dcl for korn/bourne/c shells - does linux offer all/any of these ?

Regards, Joe.

There should be no difference to PowerHouse as long as you can identify
where Oracle is on the network. We have tested PowerHouse on OpenVMS
against Oracle on UNIX as well as Oracle on OpenVMS.

The current PowerHouse version on OpenVMS is 8.40D1. There's no need to
move to 8.30 first with the exception of the dictionary. The dictionary
(PHD) must be upgraded first to the 8.30 level and then to 8.40D1. The
8.40D1 package comes with the routines needed to do the upgrade so
installing 8.30 is not necessary.

If your client is a supported customer, they can download the 8.30
Upgrade Guide and the 8.4 New Features which will show them all of the
differences and new features between 7.10 and 8.40.

Subject: PowerHouse and Oracle/Linux compatibility

Hi all.

We have a client with a legacy PowerHouse 7.10.G / RDB 7.0 system on
OpenVMS
-
and they are considering upgrading the database to Oracle on Linux
(first step in a total migration).

Anyone know if Oracle being on Linux (as opposed to Unix) makes a
difference to the PowerHouse side of things? If there's no difference to
PowerHouse, what version of PowerHouse is necessary to get it talking to
Oracle - is it necessary to upgrade to PowerHouse 8.30? If there IS a
difference to PowerHouse, can anyone elaborate on the differences?

Thanks and regards
