Sort file limit -- QTP 843D

I thought that this was limited to cisam, could it be that the version of
cisam you are accessing is not the latest shipped with PH ?

I thought I understood that the latest version of cisam, shipped with PH8,
is capable of handling 2 Gig (i.e. 2^31) records of any acceptable (to pdl)
byte size.

Is it possible that it is the Unix environment that is limiting the sort
file size ?

I seem to recall seeing a comment suggesting you create an indexed subfile
on the sort key; I realize that this would take a long time to populate, but
then you could use 'choose viaindex idxname' with 'sorted on idxname_col'
syntax and avoid a sort.

Regards, Joe.

Subject: Sort file limit -- QTP 843D

Hi all:

Does anybody know of a way to have QTP 843D get by what appears to be a
2G limit on the sort process. HP UX 11? A run time parameter or an
environment variable
would be nice.

# of records. = 4,437,271
   rec size = 584

file size = 2,591,366,264

Even though I have PHTEMP point to a very large file system.

I get :-

Insufficient disk space for sort.

Regards,
Peter
