Hello David,

Thanks for your idea to extend Mike's tip to Quick, all these tips are very useful.

As you requested, I am sending this reply to the list as well.

Once again, thanks.
Mary.

Mary,

That IS a nice tip!

You could extend this trick to QUICK: Change the ITEM statements to LET statements, by changing ITEM to LET and INITIAL to "=".

Thanks.

Would you try sending this to the full list? For some reason, I get the message bounced back as undeliverable.

Thank you.

Hello Mike,
Thanks for your tip (now why didn't I think of that?). It worked very well, and so much faster than typing all the item statements in from scratch.
Mary.

Mary,
The default in an Add/update is for the items to be initial. When you build the QTP you should see the items. I then cut & paste them into my code, change the initials to finals and remove the period at the end of each line.

Hi,
I have a QTP program to read fileA and add/update the contents into existing fileB, and it correctly adds all new records.

However the update doesn't seem to work without an item statement, although the manual says the record structure will be updated if it is different. As these files have over 20 items, I wondered if there is a short cut so that I do not have to specify an item statement for every item.

Any ideas?
Mary.
