subfile with indices

Yes - that is the correct way to report the contents of the subfile.

What type of machine are you on?

How do you know there is data in the file?

Is it a temporary or permanent subfile?   Did you start with a permanent 
subfile and then switch to a temporary one?  Or vice-versa?
