as a work around I suspect that if you use declare cursor syntax, only the 
columns referenced in the cursor wiil be returned, otherwise the program has 
no idea which columns you want to access and will get them all ?

Why it works well in 8.30.C is beyond me. If you specify 'set list sql' in 
your source code you will see  what will be returned without the need of 
your DBA, but this might not apply to 'file' syntax.


You could always type 'show items' in quiz ( after 'access view1' ) in 
8.30.c and then again in 8.40.d to see if they are listing different items.
