OpenVMS 7.3-2, Alpha, PH840d. Not sure of the web server version, but think
it's up to date.
Getting lots of response to this, thnx everyone.

First off, there are more than 2 :-)
What's the platform, version, and the Web Server? These could make a
difference. I seem to recall issues on OpenVMS. If that's your platform,
check the release notes.
PH Web will send back whatever's being displayed. It's very similar to
QUICK. If you're seeing things displayed, then I gather you're doing a
change of some sort and PH Web will show the changed data by default. One
way to avoid this is to go to another page via DEFER LINKPAGE. You could set
this up in your POSTUPDATE such that the DEFER LINKPAGE re-retrieves the
data, if that's what you want, or just re-loads the same page by empty. If
there's a DEFER LINKPAGE active when PH Web is formatting the results page,
it will send the DEFER LINKPAGE request instead. So the large amount of data
will never be sent thus avoiding the problem.

We are attempting to write a PH web screen which prompts for confirmation of
an order. This confirmation screen is passed a variable number of orders
and displays them. (# of items and description) Upon a submit, the system
will accept up to 10 orders before crashing with a "internal server error".
It appears as if the page is sending back ALL of the displayed items,
including a large description field.
The question is, how do we stop the description field from being sent back?
Adding a "display" clause to the PH field statement does not stop the
behaviour. It appears as is we are hitting a limit as to the informatrion
being sent to the server.
cheers
