it looks like calmac have stopped phweb returning urls full of data altogether. all the communication with the browser is done via asp, and the html contains phweb markup which i would imagine the asp passes to phcgi.exe.
rather a neat solution to an enduring problem.
is how to do this documented anywhere?

I may be the one mistaken here. Maybe someone from Calamac would respond to your post.
It appears that their site is a mix of both ASP and PH_WEB. As you indicated, once you get to step 2, then you see the phcgi.exe commands.
