this is true, but when I tried it earlier ( I also thought of this option )
I got a different error message, and so assumed that the site was no longer
available.

Presumably the chap that sent us the original email might offer an
explanation - I would attach the original email but I can't see how to - I
think it was from Harold, but there are a number of addresses in both the
'to' and 'from' lines, so I can't be sure.

Regarding the http://sfaswww.gov.bc.ca/ site Joe mentioned. If you go to 
the top, you'll see this is considered a restricted site. So the long 
URL Joe tried would be expected to be broken.

For all we know, the site is up and running fine.
