Migration document from Cisam to oracle

just two more points,

1) the tables created are generic SQL constructions and will have to be
modified to match the exact functionality of the indexed record structures

2) I am not suggesting that the doc mentioned below is the only one at the
Cognos Web site, besides Roger's white paper there are thousands of docs
relating to techniques for general processing of Oracle (or any RDB) tables
using Powerhouse

The only doc written specifically for Oracle Migration that I recall seeing
is the White paper by Roger Jackson - try searching for this name at the
Cognos web site.

Other than that, the most useful option I have seen is where you can now
type 'GENERATE DATABASE <indexed-file>' in qshow ( after 'set lang sql' )
and this will create table statements for your indexed file statements.

You can also use GENERATE DATABASE which will create tables for all files (
you might need to add all). This is probably available in the PH 8 series
only, as PH7 created table statements for existing tables only. But you
could always migrate your dictionary up to 8.43 and then use the GENERATE
DATABASE option.

Aside from the above, try typing 'site:lists.sowder.com powerh-l oracle' at
Google, or even 'site:lists.sowder.com powerh-l GENERATE DATABASE'.

Regards, Joe.

Hi all,

We are looking at doing at cisam to oracle migration and have spoken to
someone who has previously done this. They mentioned that a document
exists at Cognos that assists in the migration process.

Does anyone know how to get hold of it or has a copy of that document.

Many thanks,
Brett.
