Hi Stefan:

  I have had better luck when I put my constants on the left of a
  relational operator.

  So
   this 	(LEAVE-DATE-LEFT(1) GT 0  AND LEAVE-DATE-RET(1) EQ 0) OR &

   becomes
	( 0 LE LEAVE-DATE-LEFT(1)   AND 0 EQ LEAVE-DATE-RET(1) ) OR &
   etc
