set file command

I think that your own suggestion of "set file xxx open 1" has a good chance
if you add share as in "set file xxx open 1 share".
I think that all files with this open number will now be opened with the
same TX and allowing other users read/write access to the associated files;
I seem to recall that rdb will use the share option in the associated
reserving list.
It might be worth a test, and it allows the consistency TX which is usually
faster and more consistent updates.
Regards, Joe.

Interesting. Currently the process is set to commit at request, which I
gather locks during the input phase. I will try this.
thnx

I think cognos dropped the ability to read tables in read only mode, and I
think BobD said they were looking at an enhancement to bring this back in a
later PH8 version.
Probable best option is 'commit at update', which only locks a row at the
actual moment it will be updated; the trade off is run-time, so possibly
'commit at 100' to reduce the lock time or even 'commit at sort-item' where
the concurrency TX means tables arn't locked for the duration of the qtp.

A question regarding the "set file" command in QTP. Recently, we were
running a new process in QTP which had a large number of links, but each
file was mentioned in a "set file xxx open read" statement. However, during
the run, this process caused a lock on a table! Is this syntax not
applicable anymore? If so, what syntax should we be using? ie: "set file
xxx open 1" ??
thnx
