Suppressing *W* messages in PDL

Or maybe put the record number in the record so you'll know which warning
you're getting. This would help since there are a couple of similar
messages. The resulting message would still be short enough to ignore while
scanning visually and specific enough to remove with and editor.

For example, in pdlmsge.ph849c.cognos, record 39 says
"The storage type and size may be too small for some values."
and record 201 says
"The storage type/size may be too small for some values."

I'd suggest changing them to "39" and "201" respectively.

John, that's very sneaky - and brilliant - I love it. But I think you
need more than spaces or PDL will use the internal message. However, he
could add something like *** . If the output was sent to a file, those
messages could be easily deleted in a text editor leaving the ones of
interest.

Robert

What happens if you remove the offending message from
pdlmsge.[group].cognos? By remove I mean replace with spaces rather than
delete since the relative record number is the key. Since the "*W*" is
not in the message file I'd guess that your output from pdl would still
have the same 400 lines of warnings but they'd be simply the "*W*" which
would make the other errors and warnings easier to spot. And you'd need
to remember to do this for each new version of PH.

Bob,

Your understanding is correct but there is NO way we can correct the
cause of this message.

Wish there was a way of telling PDL "I know what the limit for a single
and double integer is. If I exceeded it then its my own fault. Don't
warn me about it."
