Can it work using Quick ? Works with quiz.

That's my understanding as well. The SELECT applies to record retrieval
regardless of the number of ACCESS statements and regardless of where
the SELECT is placed in relation to those ACCESS statements. In fact, if
you have multiple SELECT statements, they're supposed to be ANDed
together, again regardless of position. This applies on MPE/iX, OpenVMS,
UNIX, and Windows. I don't know for sure about AS/400.

Of course, if anyone has a test case to prove us wrong ...

Huh???

It has always been my understanding and experience that the SELECT
statement applies to the records retrieved regardless of which PATH
(i.e. ACCESS
statement) is used. So it shouldn't matter if the SELECT statement is
before the ACCESS statement(s) or after. Basically they are independent
statements.

I'd encourage you to pick either before or after and always use code it
that way but that's just for style and in the interests of making the
life of the poor guy who comes after you easier.

But I've been wrong on occasion!

JWP

Yvonne,

Have you tried something like:

FILE customer
SELECT customer IF account_balance > credit_limit
ACCESS customer ...

If so, make sure you put the SELECT before the ACCESS, so that if you
have multiple ACCESS statements (paths), the SELECT will apply to all of
them.

Thanks.
