One of the great benefits about staying with PH and our VMS platform is that
everytime we replace the older hardware, we get a quantum leap in
performance. Recently, going from old to new disk packs improved our
performance up to 800%, and before that it was going from VAX to Alpha.

Of course I'm biased but I'd like to suggest some of questions you should
ask. Remember that this is critical to your business.

First off, if you're considering Core (or anything else), I strongly suggest
that you have them prove that they can do what they say they will do. Get
references (plural) that you can contact and talk to them.

Second, get a solid estimate of the ongoing costs. If they can do what they
say they can do and actually get you onto Java or .net, will you be able to
maintain it? And at what cost?

Third, does it give you flexibility for the future? Yes, there is a future
to consider even if you move off of PowerHouse. Is Java or .net the end? I
doubt it. How does staying with PowerHouse and using Axiant or PowerHouse
Web as well as ongoing database and operating system conformance on the
"open" platforms such as UNIX and Windows NT/2000/XP compare with what you
get from Core (or any other migration)?

David,

Let me first say that under no circumstances did or will Cognos ever give
Core Software a mailing list.

We consider them to be a competitor of ours and question the ability of
their application to perform as described.

P.H.

I think they got the e-mailing list from Cognos. We were contacted by them
in January. I see that they are located in Ottawa; I'm guessing that the
company was started by some Cognos PowerHouse refugees.

We responded to Core Migration for the purpose of having them estimate the
cost of a conversion. Based on the size of our application, it was going to
be a very expensive proposition. As we run on the IBM AS/400, for which
Cognos has just announced the ending of support, we're on the outlook for
options for converting our program source, but that's as far as we
proceeded.

My experience a couple of years ago was that we couldn't find any automated
program source converters for PowerHouse out there. I haven't looked
recently; Core Migration is the first one we've heard of.

Good luck.

Hi all,

I have received some information about a company called Core-migration.
Trough the information I have learned that Core-migration have a proven
method of migrating a powerhouse application to either a .NET or a JAVA
platform.

Is there anyone here whom have heard of this company or tried there
migration or do u have any experiences that u would like to share concerning
this?

Do you know of other companies that offers support/programs to migrate PH ->
Java/.Net/etc.

Regards,

P.H.
