Some people have got the SCO 7.n version of PH to work well on Linux (Intel) boxes. One consultant in California has many clients with this setup. Apparently the 8.n versions are not so compatible though. Plus Cognos no longer sell the SCO UNIX version of PH to my knowledge.

Intel machines have a little endian byte order, the Powepc which is the chip used for the iSeries and pSeries is a big endian
machine. That makes a big difference in the code. Therefore, porting to the iSeries Linux is different enough from porting to the Intel architecture machines so that Cognos could do one and not the other. Therefore, it is probably a good idea to be specific about what you are hoping for.
Moreover, from a business ROI point of view, if Cognos simply wants Powerhouse to continue on the iSeries, they can make a trivial investment in testing (that's all it might be, it might already work) the AIX/DB2 version on the iSeries using the PASE enviroment. The Powerpc Linux port would likely be substantially more work unless they already work on some little endian *nix OS (SCO, DB UNIX, Unisys, etc.).

We don't have any specific plan to port to LINUX. We are watching the market but as yet do not see sufficient business from our existing customers. There's interest but, to be blunt, not enough money on the table.

John,
Oh, that would be a good option. Same hardware, different OS.
Bob Deskin: Any chance of PH for Linux?
Thanks.

Maybe they could add Linux when they drop the AS400?

That's very interesting.
I can't find any statements on their website regarding EOL of Powerhouse on the OS400.

I just received Cognos' letter detailing their phasing out of support for the AS/400 - iSeries. Of course, they haven't been creating new versions of PowerHouse for years, but at least they've been ensuring that PH would continue to work on new versions of OS/400.
Quick questions for those of you in this list who are still running PH on an AS/400:
1. Does this announcement make any difference to your on-going strategy and/or future plans for providing hardware/software solutions for your business?
2. What do you see as your "exit strategy" from the PH-AS/400 combination:
a. Run PH on an AS/400 as long as it works (applying new versions of OS/400 unless it causes problems that can't be worked around);
b. Replace our custom-written solution with a standard package;
c. Migrate our PH code to a different platform;
d. Convert our PH code to a different language (and, possibly, platform);
e. Or?
Thanks.
