Sounds like the chicken and the egg situation. Nobody's going to show interest in a LINUX version unless a) they know it exists or b) they demand it from Cognos. In the latter case they won't because the mentality - supported I think by Cognos' own sales people - that PowerHouse is out-of-date technology and they should move to something 'modern' like J2EE or .Net.
Cognos is flush with money, a number of people on this list have pushed for a LINUX port, and as PH already runs on UNIX the investment shouldn't be too much. I think Cognos just wants to milk the ADT side for the license income and minimise investment until there are so few remaining users it can dump PowerHouse off to a small company and concentrate solely on BI tools and applications. My appologies to my friends at Cognos like Bob D. but that's the impression Cognos sales people and the user conferences like the one this June demonstrate.
Sincerely,
Blue

John,
Oh, that would be a good option. Same hardware, different OS.
Bob Deskin: Any chance of PH for Linux?
Thanks.

Maybe they could add Linux when they drop the AS400?

That's very interesting.
I can't find any statements on their website regarding EOL of Powerhouse on the OS400.

Subject: Cognos support letter for AS/400 - iSeries
I just received Cognos' letter detailing their phasing out of support for the AS/400 - iSeries. Of course, they haven't been creating new versions of PowerHouse for years, but at least they've been ensuring that PH would continue to work on new versions of OS/400.
Quick questions for those of you in this list who are still running PH on an AS/400:
1. Does this announcement make any difference to your on-going strategy and/or future plans for providing hardware/software solutions for your business?
2. What do you see as your "exit strategy" from the PH-AS/400 combination:
a. Run PH on an AS/400 as long as it works (applying new versions of OS/400 unless it causes problems that can't be worked around);
b. Replace our custom-written solution with a standard package;
c. Migrate our PH code to a different platform;
d. Convert our PH code to a different language (and, possibly, platform);
e. Or?
Thanks.
